• Pedigree Software For Windows

Applicability

This information applies to Lineage Manager for Dogs v2.x.

This page describes the process for restoring an LMD v2.x database from a backup.

Assumptions

We assume you are restoring data previously saved in a compressed 'zip' file created by LMD v2 .x.

Do you need more help than this page provides?

There is a help file topic addressing this. Press the F1 key from within LMD v2 to see the built-in help file.

Still confused? find a local computer expert to help you with the process on this page.

Telephone Support is available only for those who have purchased the software. Please be familiar with the basics of starting LMD, using file explorer, copying, pasting etc.

Step 1: Identifying your LMD v2.x database backup file and placing it on a USB flash drive

We assume that you already have installed LMD version 2 on the your computer.

The backup file may be in your documents folder. It will have the name formatting of "lmd-YourDatabaseName-month-day-year.zip".
Here is an example: lmd-beagles-dec-14-2016.zip

  1. Copy the zip file to your USB flash drive from the computer it is located on now (old computer, friend's computer, etc.)
  2. Move the USB Flash Drive to the destination computer containing LMD v2.

Step 2: Restoring the backup data from the zip file into LMD v2.x

LMD version 2 is assumed to be installed on the 'destination' (new) computer. We are assuming your 'new' computer is Windows 10, 8.1/8, 7 or Vista (either 32 or 64 bit operating system). Remember, from within LMD you can always press the F1 key to see the help file.

How to restore your v2 data:

  1. Start LMD v2 and open a database you've been working with or create a new database - we are not actually going to use this database. (If you were using a database already, the opening window has ' Database Question' with Yes/No options - pressing No allows you to create a new database.)
  2. Creating a new database is simple. Enter the database name in the top left, then press Continue at the bottom. Since we are not 'using' the newdatabase, name it anything like junk.
  3. Make sure the USB flash drive is plugged into the destination computer.
  4. Click on the left side control panel bar 'Lineage Database', then click on the Database Maintenance button (icon) in the left side panel.
  5. In the right side panel, locate and press the 'Restore Database from compressed zip' button, select Yes. Use the file open window to navigate to the lmd-...zip file on your USB flash drive and then click on Open. A message will ask you if you are sure, press Yes. And if you already have a database with the same name you will be asked a final time, press Yes but be careful since it will overwrite one with the same name.
  6. The import process will now proceed followed by Restore Complete. The database will be just as it was when you used it at the time you backed it up.

  7. After restoring the database will have the same name as the backup.
